Our Team

Central and South Sussex Citizens Advice employs around fifty permanent staff and around 300 volunteer advisers. The team is directed by the Senior Management Team is made up of the Chief Officer, Support Manager, Finance & IT Manager and Client Services Manager.

Paul Robinson - Chair of Trustee Board

Paul has extensive operational and commercial leadership experience. He has worked in manufacturing, (FMCG, Speciality Chemicals and Printing), for a number of large corporations across Europe and the Middle East. Much of his experience has been based within companies that were struggling to perform, where he improved strategic planning, delivered growth and created business excellence. Paul has previously established his own company advising on Business Development and in a voluntary capacity was the Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses in Rutland.

Andrew Brock

Now retired from full-time employment, Andrew has worked in engineering, marketing and general management for a multi-national telecommunications company, and more recently as a management consultant in transport and communications. Andrew has wide experience of local government, having until recently been a County and Town councillor for 10 years. He is now a member of Mid Sussex District Council. He is a trustee of the Town Museum, is an Imberhorne School governor and is also active in other local organisations.

Mike Link

Mike worked for West Sussex County Council for over 25 years, in highway construction, transport policy, transport and land use planning, and economic development. From 2010 to 2012 he was lead officer for the Council on its corporate partnership work including with the voluntary and community sector. A chartered engineer and fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transport, Mike was the County Council’s head of transport planning until 2008 before working in Adult Social Care and Health. Responsible for promoting and increasing the extent of services jointly commissioned by the Council and NHS in West Sussex, he facilitated the transfer of Public Health from the NHS to the Council. Previous experience includes consultancy and regional government.

Chris Verney

Chris pursued a career in Human Resource Management. He worked across a number of commercial sectors including consumer products with Cadbury Schweppes, US multinational Computer companies (including Sperry and Prime Computers) and finishing up as an HR Director in the business banking arena with Lloyds TSB. A common theme in Chris’s HR career has been the promotion and management of change.

Richard Smillie

Richard has worked in housing for 37 years. Now retired. He worked in local government for ten years and was Chief Executive of several large housing associations in his later career. He has a masters degree in Government Studies. After retirement he became Managing Director of a small environmental charity. He is a trustee of YMCA DLG working in Sussex and Surrey.

Irene Campbell

Irene’s professional career has been with East and West Sussex Country Council. She began by stamping books at Haywards Heath Library and ended up at East Sussex as Assistant Director being responsible for front facing services: libraries, the Record Office, Registrars, Customer Service, Complaints, Freedom of Information and Data Protection She also picked up experience on electronic information creation, websites and Music services on the way.

Irene has been a trustee for over 20 years in various organisations, mostly literary , but also has been a Governor of a secondary school and is currently a Trustee of Cats Protection and the RSA, the latter being historically responsible amongst other things for chimney sweep brushes, public toilets, lifeboats, the Great Exhibition and shorthand/typing exams.

The particular skills she brings to the table are strategic thinking, volunteer management, HR, fund raising, building construction and maintenance, information science, enquiry work, customer service and project management.

She relaxes by cooking for family and friends and travelling the world, both of which she writes about.

Sarah Trowbridge

Sarah has had a broad retail career for over 30 years, operating at a senior level in supply chain, online, customer service and operations, most recently as a regional manager responsible for supermarkets and convenience stores in Sussex.  A trained coach with experience of leading teams through transformational change in a large complex organisation.

Mark Maund

Mark has been a volunteer with the Citizens Advice Worthing for several years, having progressed through the training programme while working full time as a Senior Clerk for a leading company Registrars. Mark’s career has included lengthy legal studies with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and the Institute of Company Secretary Association which are in a continual development programme. Mark brings his legal training, enthusiasm and determination to assist the charity in reaching its many goals.
